Wendy Nugent began to play the piano at the age of six, and studied at The Royal Academy of Music from the age of nine, first as a Junior Exhibitioner, and then as an undergraduate and postgraduate student in solo piano with Jean Anderson and Philip Fowke, gaining the GRSM (Hons.) degree, LRAM Diploma, Professional Certificate RAM (solo piano) and Advanced Certificate RAM (solo piano). While at the Academy, she also studied the violin, chamber music and piano accompaniment.

Wendy teaches the piano at The Grange School, Hartford in both the Junior and Senior schools, as well as having a thriving private teaching practice. When not teaching, Wendy is the pianist and Assistant Musical Director of the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service Choir (who were formed, and subsequently reached the final of the BBC 2 second series of ‘Sing While You Work’ with Gareth Malone), with whom she has performed at many exciting venues, including the Millennium Stadium, Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Blackpool Opera House, and also at Carnegie Hall and Ground Zero in New York. She is also the accompanist for the Holmes Chapel Chorus.
Wendy is delighted to be a part of HMH Piano Collective, and enjoys playing at weddings and functions across the UK. She performs as the top half of the piano duo ‘Dolby and Hughes’, and her solo performances have included Rachmaninov’s second piano concerto at The Royal Northern College of Music. Wendy has worked as a soloist and accompanist throughout the UK, Ireland and Europe for singers and instrumentalists, and has performed several times on television and radio, most recently as accompanist to Matthew Brett when he was a finalist in the percussion section of BBC Young Musician 2016, and again in 2018 when he was the winner of the percussion final.
Wendy is thrilled to work as a UK and international examiner for ABRSM, which has involved travelling and examining in China, Singapore and Hong Kong, and enjoys promoting and encouraging musical education and a joy of making music in everyone.
